Last Wisps of Summer - What I Wore

I love the in-between Summer and Autumn weather. The air is so crisp and clean but the sun still keeps everything warm. The world must have knew I needed good vibes because everyone seemed to be just a tiny bit sweeter to me. To put it the best way I can, a usually harsh and not terribly complimentary coworker told me that I'm the type of girl her granddaughters would think was a princess. Another coworker agreed and followed up by saying that my soul was equally as beautiful as my looks. I don't think compliments get much better than those.

Bo was looking sweetly at me from his playpen so I decided to sneak him in for a guest appearance...

Polka Dots & Whoopie Pies - What I Wore

Word flew around the office that there was a new bakery in town that had a salted caramel whoopie pies. My mom and I went on a bit of a scavenger hunt for them since we didn't know the name of the shop and when we finally found it...we bought three. I'm told that whoopie pies are a New England only thing and I would just like to say, if you don't live in New England you are missing out!

I have been in a polka dot mood. On a more relaxed day at the office I tried out my new wrap dress with a jean jacket and leggings. The dress is so short, I'm not sure how anyone could possibly wear it any other way...

Life As Of Lately

I wish I could spend my days napping on the couch like my buddy Ca$h Catt (although, I would prefer it not be covered in cat fur and dirt from dog paws), but life has been nonstop. My great Uncle Donald has busted out of the nursing home he's been living in and is back in his own private apartment. Of course, since he has cerebral palsy and has been in a wheelchair his entire life, it hasn't (and isn't) easy. Being in and out of his new place every day with my mom and aunt and trying to make this new situation work has been tiring - and I haven't even been the one doing the bulk of the work!

I've started to carry my camera around with me again in hopes of capturing some moments in my days. Hopefully it will help me to get on track with regular posting. Here's a few -

I love this thrifted wooden birdcage. It was on it's way to storage until Christopher and I find a place of our own, but my mother stole it to put it in the living room.

I thrifted this adorable 1980's striped strawberry print skirt. It will most likely end up in my Etsy since my closet is bursting...literally. I think it may expolode soon.

My groomer always insists on leaving this weird looking poof on the end of Pitou's tail when he get's a hair cut. I can't stand it.

Office life... I got a new kitten calendar for my desk. As if anyone walking in couldn't already tell that I'm seven years old. And, I fished this glass coke bottle out of the recycling bin. Weirdo status.

The contents of my bag today. I ordered my first Urban Decay lipstick and am so in love with it. I got "Gash". Mostly because it's referenced that Blaire Waldorf from Gossip Girl wears it. No Shame.

Ca$h usually discovers and then gets into a fight with his own tail a few times a day. This morning the cuteness level went through the roof.

Happy Friday! Cheers to a weekend filled with renovating our bedroom, thrifting, and actually cooking meals in my own kitchen!

Currently Loving

Things I'm currently loving:

1. This Valentino dress. This is one of those loud pieces that I fall head over heels with that most women just don't understand. But, look at it! I faint.

2. This photo I took at a family gathering last weekend. I'm in love with it. There is something about brand new baby skin against hard working, older, or tattooed skin that just gets me.

3. This bracelet from Mickey's Girl. The one in the photo is unavailable, but there is a similar one with a wing charm that I like as well.

4. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I've wanted to read this book since before it was released! I finally caved and ordered it. I'm only a few chapters in, but I love it already!

5. And, finally, Miley's new hair cut. Oh, the drama. The girl looks awesome. I'm not just saying that because my hair looked exactly like this six months ago, by the way.

Also,

  • Taylor Swift's new single. I've listened to this song way too much already.
  • This post on Vegan Housewives on eating Vegan at Disney.
  • I watched Being Elmo on Netflix and already want to watch it over.

Hot Air Balloon Festival

Hot Air Balloon Festival

Hot Air Balloon Festival by bitty603 featuring a bow belt

In honor of mine and Christopher's 4:30AM wake up call to see the hot air balloons lift off this morning, I made up a cute outfit inspired by the festival. We had a family get together at my aunts house to see the balloons in the sky last night and because of a thunder storm, they never got off the ground. So, an early morning viewing it was! I got some gorgeous photos in the morning light so my feelings were not hurt. Hot air balloons are so whimsical, colorful, and serene. I find myself obsessed with lots of simple things and I've got to say, if I weren't already - i'm officially fascinated and infatuated!

Playing Dress Up

A few weeks ago, I pulled out my tripod and remote and went to town with my closet. I have so many dresses that hardly get worn. Office job life really interferes with my clothing options...and I'm even daring about what I wear to work! The first dress is handmade vintage. When I brought it home, by mom thought I was nuts because of the funky color and the fact that it was about a size 14 and I'm generally a size 4. I couldn't leave it at the store, though! I had a friend take it in but I haven't worn it out yet.

Shopping Inspiration - Honey Bees

I've always had a special place in my heart for bees. Funny, because things that buzz around and have stingers generally don't tickle my fancy (example: my hatred for wasps). But oh how I love to watch a lazy bee flit from flower to flower. Not the mention, the honeycomb pattern is perfect.

On a recent road trip I read The Secret Life Of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and found myself mentally highlighting so many quotes - here's a couple of my favorites...

“After you get stung, you can't get unstung
no matter how much you whine about it.”

“women made the best beekeepers 'cause they have
a special ability built into them to love creatures that sting.”

“At night I would lie in bed and watch the show, how bees squeezed through the cracks of my bedroom wall and flew circles around the room, making that propeller sound, a high-pitched zzzzzz that hummed along my skin. I watched their wings shining like bits of chrome in the dark and felt the longing build in my chest. The way those bees flew, not even looking for a flower, just flying for the feel of the wind, split my heart down its seam.”
